Characteristics of Perlite
Perlite is natural, sterile, ultra-lightweight, non-toxic, permanent, incombustible, asbestos-free, and virtually pH-neutral.
Why Perlite Works
Expanded perlite particles are clusters of minute, lightweight, insulating, glass bubbles. Its unique internal structure, together with a large exterior irregular surface composed of broken bubbles and surface openings provide for water and air holding capacity. Its internal structure resists thermal transmission, and crushed particles present a maze of microscopic pathways that can be used to filter and clean a wide array of liquids.
Perlite is an extremely versatile material and has many other uses beyond what are listed here. If you can't find what you are looking for, call us to discuss your application, or ask about specialty sizes. For more information, visit our Questions page.
Expanded Perlite Products
Supreme Perlite manufactures expanded perlite for a variety of applications. We specialize in products both for the regional horticulture industry, but also make grades suitable for applications in construction, industry, and environmental cleanup.
- potting soil & propagation
- high-performance hydroponics
- turf enhancement
- lightweight concrete
- masonry & underslab insulation
- plaster aggregate
- bulk filler & texturizing agent
- cryogenic tank insulation
- product fillers & bulkers
- raw ore for slag treat and insulation
- abrasive for soaps and polishes
- ecology embankments
- media filter drains
- sorbent and sludge absorption
- buried oil tank decommissioning
During processing, raw ore is heated to roughly 1700°F, expanding the particles to target size and density range for the desired grade. Regular sieve analyses are performed to ensure that the final product is within spec.
The finished product is then bagged and palletized. Depending on the product or destination, the pallets may be capped with plastic and stretch wrap for transport.
Perlite Ore Products
Raw ore is available for direct purchase from our location. Ore has a number of uses, but its most commmon application is as slag skim by the foundry industry.
Bulk Bag Packaging Options
A plastic bag cap and stretch wrap can be added for moisture protection or cleanliness, for an additional fee.
